“Expect the Unexpected” Friends Used Book Sale Announced April 12-17 at Bowman Library
We are expanding out popular Wonderbook collection for patrons at all 3 library locations – Bowman Library, Clarke County Library, and Handley Library. A Wonderbook is a print book with a built-in audiobook player where kids can listen to the story as they read along. The additional books are made possible through a grant from the American Woodmark Foundation to the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System, the official non-profit 501c3 for the library system that helps support programs, services, and specific funding initiatives. 39 more books will be added with pop
Handley Regional Library System and the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System are excited to announce the “Expect the Unexpected” Friends Used Book Sale running April 12-17 at Bowman Library. This book sale has several new safety adjustments due to COVID-19. Twenty shoppers will be allowed to access the sale at a time and will need to make an appointment to shop with a 1-hour time limit (following the library system’s adjusted public hours) by emailing friends@handleyregional.org.

In this episode of Library Out Loud!, we sat down the host of our popular outdoor hiking series Third Thursday, Susan Tschirhart. We talked about the next program on climbing, respecting the outdoors, reading recommendations on hiking topics, and more!

Handley Regional Library System and the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System announce the next virtual outdoors hiking series that will focus on Climbing to New Heights with Arthur Kearns. Kearns will share his hiking experience, the impact hiking has made on his life, and how the local community can enjoy local hiking. This program is on Thursday, March 18th at 6:30PM.
Handley Regional Library System is hosting a new financial literacy program where attendees can expect to set SMART financial goals, learn effective financial habits, and create a budget to meet and exceed those set goals. This is sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System. Registration is required.
This will be presented by Mary Butler, an educator and trainer who has a master's degree in Counseling and College Student Personnel from Shippensburg University in PA.

Community Winter Reading Challenge for Kids and Teens Sees Positive Results
The program ran in January and featured a mix of virtual programs and reading incentives designed to connect literacy to entertainment.

We held a special series designed to educate the public on different ways to use library services in March titled Exploring the Library. These virtual sessions offered through Zoom were ideal for new, prospective, and current users of all library system locations – Bowman Library, Clarke County Library, and Handley Library.

Handley Regional Library System has taken several safety measures following guidelines established by the CDC, local health officials, and library-specific protocols regarding the use of materials, services, and building access to keep the staff and community safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Bowman Library, Clarke County Library, and Handley Library – in coordination with the efforts from their localities – have installed clean air technology to help neutralize and purify air inside the buildings, reducing the spread of COVID-19 and other harmful viruses.
