6 Teen Programs at the Library You Should Check Out

Posted on:

When you think of youth programming at the library, you probably think about storytimes and puppets and all sorts of things for younger kids. But did you know that the library offers programs for teens, as well? Read on to learn about a few of the activities you can get involved with!

Bowman Library

Junior Graphic Novel Club – If you like graphic novels and creativity, this program is perfect for you! Sharpen your writing and drawing skills with the knowledge, resources, and materials needed to make your own graphic novel, or just create and have fun! This program is intended for ages 6+, and it is held on the 4th Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. in the Children’s Room. Registration is required.

Robotics Club – Discover the world of robotics in this STEM program. At each meetup there are one to three "stations" for you to do. The stations may include programming a robot to go through a series of challenges, putting together your own robot, and programming an online robot to go through a task on VexCode. This program is intended for ages 10-18, and it is held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Teen Area. Registration is required.

Silent Book Club – The concept of this program is simple: once a week, we get together and read. That’s it! Bring a book, bring a friend, grab a provided quiet snack, and then settle in for some quiet reading with fellow book lovers. There's no assigned reading or forced discussion—that's the "silent" part of our book club—but we do like to share book recommendations and meet like-minded readers. This program is intended for ages 12+, and it is held every Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Teen Area.

Clarke County Library

Teen Dungeons & Dragons Game Night – Join fellow adventurers to play the tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. All materials are provided by the library, but feel free to bring a favorite game piece or set of dice. Bring your own character sheet or use one that dungeon master Kristina has made, and get ready for the quest of a lifetime! This program is intended for ages 12-18, and it is held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. Due to limited space, each game can only accommodate 10 players, so registration is required. Please note if you will be bringing a character (level 4) or would like one made when you register.

Handley Library

T(w)een Crafternoons – Creativity is key for this arts and crafts program. Learn a new craft each month, and then take home a Grab-and-Go kit with extension activities based on the theme. This program is intended for ages 10+, and it is held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. Starting in September, it will be in the West Reading Room, which will be turning into our new Young Adult Room.

Board Gaming Guild – If you like all things board games, you should come out to our brand-new teen program at Handley! Along with playing a different game each month, you’ll also explore the themes and strategies that make them. Snacks and prizes are included. This program is intended for ages 10+, and it will be held on the 1st Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the West Reading Room.
