Have you ever joined a book club? Wanted to but never had the opportunity? Never wanted to but thought you should? Still don’t want to but I am making you feel guilty?
Whatever the case, Brown Bag with Books is for you (it’s for everyone!) You can sit back quietly and listen in or talk as much as you want. Believe it or not, friendships have been created out of this club.
We meet monthly via Zoom, on the first Wednesday of the month at noon. All you need to do is check our website for the book of the month and read it! It’s a great way to push yourself to try a new genre or topic. Brown Bag with Books has a variety of choices: non-fiction, historical novels, memoirs, you name it.
A taste of what’s ahead-the August 2021 choice is The Year of Less by Cait Flanders. Subtitled “How I Stopped Shopping, Gave Away My Belongings, and Discovered Life Is Worth More Than Anything You Can Buy in a Store.” That title alone grabbed me. Who does not want to simplify? It will make for a fun and interesting discussion. Another one-July 2021 is Another Country, by James Baldwin, a 1962 classic set in Greenwich Village and Harlem, with many themes that were taboo at the time.
So as you can see, we read quite a variety of books, all designed to get people talking. It’s fun, free, and you don’t have to leave your couch!
