Creating Independence: Confidence is Key

Posted on:

Confidence starts with the caretaker. We are our young's first teacher and mentor. We model behavior and many other things to our children daily. Confidence can be hard even for adults, because of all the different situations we are exposed to--breastfeeding, conflict, new situations, work, etc. And although everyone can't always be confident all the time, we can try to assert ourselves consistently to lay boundaries and advocate for ourselves.

Although this sounds like a lot, modeling really is key. This confidence building must start with the caretaker first. With how we were raised versus the times now, we all could use some practice with this, and that is OK! So where do we start? Check out some of the library's parent-teacher resources to get started. Read about it, practice it, and the child will follow! You are learning together and that can make parenting a lot less stressful and filled with more grace.
