Dirt and Worms Storytime!

Are you ready to read this week? Spring is on the way and it’s time to get the dirt ready for planting. We may just need some help from some worms too!

If you the search bar above and type in the tag: #dirtandworms, you’ll find a lot of fun books to share, like the ones listed below.

Superworm by Julia Donaldson: Superworm's bug friends attempt to free him from the clutches of Wizard Lizard who, having heard of Superworm's wondrous and heroic deeds, captures him and forces him to dig for treasure.

Dirty Girt by  Tedd Arnold: A little girl who loves playing in the dirt becomes a tree.

Roy Digs Dirt by David Shannon: Roy is a West Highland terrier who loves to dig in the dirt and mud; sometimes he buries things, and sometimes he finds things, but mostly he just likes to dig--even though he does not like the bath that may follow the digging.

Worm Weather by Jean Taft: Join in the rainy-day fun as kids splash through the puddles, affecting another weather enthusiast, a nearby worm. The worm delights in the weather just as much as the kids

I Can Only Draw Worms by Will Mabbitt teaches the reader to count to ten using worms that have great adventures or everyday experiences, described but not illustrated due to the author/illustrator's inability to draw anything but worms.

Dig In! by Cindy Jenson-Elliott: A little boy digs, plays, and explores in his garden.

Sing while you dig for your worms to some fun songs, including a coloring page to download with a counting song.

Colorful Worms

One red wiggly worm lying under the sky so blue,
Along comes an orange worm and that makes two.
Two colorful wiggly worms squirming up a tree,
Along comes a yellow worm and that makes three.
Three colorful wiggly worms searching for one more,
Along comes a green worm and that makes four.
Four colorful wiggly worms into a puddle dive,
Along comes a blue worm and that makes five.
Five colorful wiggly worms
Squirming across some sticks,
Along comes a purple one
And that makes six.

Worms Help Us
(Sung To: "Mary Had a Little Lamb")

The worms are mixing up the soil,
Up the soil, up the soil.
The worms are mixing up the soil
So we can plant our seeds.

The soil is loose and all mixed up,
All mixed up, all mixed up.
The soil is loose and all mixed up,
The seeds are growing well.

Little Wiggle Worm Song
(Sung to: "I'm a Little Teapot")

I'm a little wiggle worm, watch me go!
I can wiggle fast, or very very slow
I wiggle all around, then back I go
Down into the ground, to the home I know

Have a lot of fun this week digging for worms in the dirt, we’ll see you next week for a new theme!
