Are you a teen gamer or puzzle aficionado? Then the library is the place to find your people! All three branches in the system have a variety of gaming and puzzling opportunities with which to engage. From Handley’s Board Gaming Guild, to the Puzzle Tournament at Bowman there really is something for everyone.
The gamers among us know that games are just better with friends. What better way to make some new friends than by attending a weekly Classic Game Night at Bowman? You will find a selection of classic board and card games like chess, checkers, Scrabble, and more available to play. Maybe you REALLY love chess? Then Bowman’s weekly Saturday morning Chess Games are for you! Perhaps Handley is a bit closer for your gaming needs? Then join Ms. Sophie at Board Gaming Guild. Each month you’ll explore the themes and strategies that make up your favorite games with a tasty snack! Or maybe you’re more of a role playing gamer? Then the Dungeons and Dragons Game Night at Clarke might be just right – be sure to register online for the monthly campaigns!
Video games have always held a special place in my heart, and I’m sure yours too. Good thing the Bowman branch hosts a Teen Video Game Night one Friday each month. You’ll be able to enjoy some games that match the month’s theme – March’s theme is Outer Space! – have some snacks, enjoy a little music, and get to gaming with some new people.
Maybe you’re more of a puzzler like me? Then the Puzzle Tournament at Bowman might be your speed. Teams of 2-4 people will compete to finish the same 750 piece puzzle. The team that finishes in the least amount of time gets a medal and all the bragging rights! Be sure to register online, in person, or by phone with a staff person at 540-869-9000 ext. 203. And did you know the Handley branch has a whole puzzle library you can check out in the East Reading Room? There is currently a community puzzle in the works on top of the puzzle drawers, be sure to add piece or two! In those drawers below, you’ll find a selection of puzzles you may take to complete. Got an old puzzle you don’t plan to put together again? Donate it to the puzzle library for others to enjoy!
