How to Celebrate National Library Week 2023

Posted on:

In honor of National Library Week, Handley Regional Library System announces a week-long celebration at its three branches: Bowman Library, Handley Library, and Clarke County Library. From April 23-29, the libraries will offer a variety of activities and events that highlight the importance of libraries in our communities.

National Library Week is an annual celebration that highlights the valuable role libraries play in our lives. This year's theme, "There's More to the Story," showcases how libraries are full of stories in a variety of formats from picture books to large print, audiobooks to eBooks, and more. But there's so much more to the story. Libraries lend items like park passes, video games, and STEAM to go! kits. Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through story times, movie nights, genealogy classes, and author talks. Library infrastructure advances communities, providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs. Handley Regional Library System invites everyone to join in the celebration and explore all that the libraries have to offer.

Throughout the week, the libraries will host events for all ages, including story times, special children's and teen events, and adult workshops. Visitors can also take advantage of the libraries' resources, including free Wi-Fi, computer access, and a vast collection of books, movies, and music.

"Libraries are more important than ever in today's society," says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System. "They provide access to information and technology, support literacy and lifelong learning, and serve as community gathering places. National Library Week is an opportunity to showcase all that Handley Regional Library System has to offer and to remind people why libraries are essential."

How to Celebrate:

1. Visit your library.

National Library Week is the perfect time to visit your library. Many libraries have special events planned for the week. Bring the kids or invite your friends. Meet the librarians. Check out books or other great items in your library's collection or attend a program. Take time to learn your library's story during National Library Week to see all it has to offer!

2. What's your library story?

What role has the library played in your life? Did you find inspiration in a book? Get help finding a job or starting a business? Have you made new friends at the library? Tell us by posting to Instagram, Twitter, or on our Facebook page. Use the hashtag #MyLibraryStory

If you love your library, help us make some noise during National Library Week. There's never been a more important moment to show your support.

3. Follow your library on social media.

Be sure to follow your library on social media so you don't miss out on all they have to offer.
