Introducing: Handley’s Teen and Tutor Room!

Posted on:

Handley’s West Reading Room is now the Teen and Tutor Room! This space is designed specifically for teens and tutoring groups to use. Let’s explore all this room has to offer.

Collections

All our Young Adult materials are now located in this room. This includes fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and manga. Our video game collection is also stored here.

Other than our new books, we have two displays in this room. One is connected to our teen programming, and the other is based on a theme. For December, we’re highlighting books with red covers.

Resources

We have two bulletin boards for this room, one just outside and one next to our fiction shelves. These display resources for both teens and tutoring groups, such as book recommendations, standardized testing schedules, and program ads.

Bulletin Boards

On our hallway bulletin board, we also have genre booklets. The YA genre booklets are full of recommendations for different types of books, such as sci-fi, romance, and novels in verse. On the tutor side, we have subject booklets. These contain both book and online resources to help with certain tutoring subjects, like history, writing, and test prep.

You can also find some resource rack cards over by our fiction bulletin board. You’ll find digital resources, a tough topics guide, and more.

Programs

Both of our teen programs are held in this room. On the first Monday of every month, you can play fun games based on a theme in our Board Gaming Guild. Then on the third Wednesday, get creative with T(w)een Crafternoons and explore different forms of artistic expression. Both programs are aimed for ages 10 and up.

Furniture

This space is designed to be a comfortable place for young people to study and hang out, and the furniture in the room helps with that. There are four tables with chairs, and these can be moved together if groups need more table space to work. There are also two beanbag chairs next to our phone charging station.

Fun

Last but not least, a room designed for young people would not be complete without some elements of fun. We have a Stick Together color-by-letter board that everyone is welcome to help with. There is also a puzzle currently over by the bulletin board, and eventually we plan to have board games in that room, as well.

We hope to see you soon at the Handley Library!
