October is American Archives Month, and it seems like the perfect opportunity to bring together archives from across the Shenandoah Valley to celebrate and educate the public about what we do. What does it mean to be an archivist? How do we preserve a variety of different types of artifacts for future generations? What do the archives in the Valley have in their collections? And how can we help you with your research and questions?
Join us for the Shenandoah Valley Archives Fair on Thursday, October 5 from 11:00 am – 1:00pm at the Bowman Library. The event opens with an "Ask the Archivist" panel with six archivists ready to answer questions about their work and the collections in their care. The exposition will open at 11:30 am and features over 25 archives and special collections repositories from up and down the Shenandoah Valley will be available to talk to participants in more detail about their holdings, showcase pieces from their collections, and answer any questions regarding services and programs.
The fair is open to anyone: from the experienced genealogist to the person who has not visited an archives and wonders what it’s all about. Reservations are not required. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Archives Department by email at archives@handleyregional.org or call (540) 662-9041 ext. 17.
