Our middle grade book spotlight this week is books that take place at a summer camp!!!  It is that time of year that individuals set off for summer camps which focus on a variety of missions and goals and we have books that do the same exact thing meaning we can go to summer camp without even needing to leave our bedrooms.  We have stories that take place at more traditional summer camps while there are others that are more unique and then the stories that could be the scary stories told at camp. These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #youthsummervacay as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new middle grade book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Nerd Camp by Elissa Weissman--For ten-year-old Gabe, the Summer Center for Gifted Enrichment is all that he dreamed it would be, but he must work hard to write about the fun in letters to Zach, his cool future stepbrother, without revealing that it is a camp for "nerds."

Silver Meadows Summer by Emma Otheguy--Carolina and her family suddenly move from Puerto Rico to upstate New York, looking for a better life. But Carolina is shy and doesn't fit in and just wants to go back to her “real” home. At a farm day camp called Silver Meadows, Carolina meets Jennifer, a fellow artist, and their friendship helps her find a place for herself.

Camp Murderface by Josh Berk--Corryn Quinn and Tez Jones are both attending Camp Sweetwater for the summer--the first time it's been open in thirty years. Tez is excited to be allowed to go in lieu of his heart condition, and Corryn knows she's being sent away while her parents settle their divorce. Early on in their time there, Tez and Corryn seem to be the only ones noticing spooky events happening, and when they investigate the history of the camp, they realize they may be in danger.

Camp by Kayla Miller--Best friends Olive and Willow are thrilled to go to the same summer camp-and to even share a bunk bed! But while Olive has fun at camp and wants to get involved, Willow is homesick and wants Olive with her all the time. Will their friendship survive camp?

A Clatter of Jars by Lisa Graff--At Camp Atropos, many of the children have superhuman abilities, otherwise known as "Talents." Liliana isn't happy to be stuck spending the summer there with her stepsister Hannah and without her brother Max. But when a jar filled with a mysterious Talent drops to the bottom of the lake, things get weird. And the camp director's secret could take things from weird to dangerous.

To Night Owl from Dogfish by Holly Goldberg Sloan--Unhappy about being sent to the same summer camp after their fathers start dating, Bett and Avery, eleven, eventually begin scheming to get the couple back together after a break-up. Told entirely through emails.
