If you have been to the Bowman Library in recent weeks you probably noticed a lot of earth moving equipment in the parking lot. Frederick County Parks and Recreation has been very busy constructing the new walking trail around Lakeside Lake and we are excited about it!
Officially named the “Bowman Lake Trail” and designed for pedestrian use, the trail is a loop, starting and ending at the Library. It is approximately 1/2 mile in length and is 6' wide, except for the 4' wide section of trail leading towards the Lakeside Condominium property. The trail surface will be chipseal which will provide a firm, non-slip surface similar to asphalt but with the look of gravel.
According to Jon Turkel, Assistant Director for Frederick County Parks and Recreation, increasing lake access is one of the goals for the Trail. Regular maintenance near the trail; to include mowing and clearing some of the overgrowth on the lake shore should increase lake access and visibility around the trail. A quick trip around the trail this afternoon revealed workers spreading straw on newly prepared ground by the trail.
Although construction on the trail is not estimated to be complete until the end of September, it is open and accessible for public use. As the days turn cooler and we move outdoors to enjoy the autumn weather, why not come on over and check out the Bowman Lake Trail? It is beautiful! While you are at it, take a stroll up to the Library, check out some materials and see what the Trail looks like from inside.
