Plus, you will earn a virtual ticket you can then use to select the prize drawing you wish to enter.

  • Talk with your child about a time you saw a frog in real life. If you’ve never seen one in person, check out a video. Talk about what you saw after.

  • How do polliwogs turn into frogs? You can sing this song after exploring books about the lifecycle of a frog.

    COOL POLLIWOG
    Tune: "Kookaburra"
Polliwog swims in the pond all day.
    Swishing his tail every way.
    Swim polliwog, swim polliwog.
How cool your life must be!

Polliwog soon grows four long legs.
He climbs on land and hops away!
Hop little frog, hop little frog.
How cool your life must be!

  • Check out and read any book from this week’s search tag: #talesoffrogs

  • Check out these lily pad letters! If you’re able, print a copy and have your child trace the letters with their finger or crayon. You can also spell “frog” or the child’s name with the letter cards.

  • Play leap frog together!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED: At least two people – but the more the merrier Open space indoors or out – you just need to be able to fit all people into a line
LEAPFROG RULES: The first child should crouch down and rest their hands on their knees. Younger children can simply crouch on the floor tucking in their head and feet. The second player runs up to the crouched child in front, placing their hands on their back and leaping over like a frog flying through the air, straddling their legs wide apart on each side. On landing, this child immediately stoops down into the frog position so that the third child has to leap over the first and second, and then adopts the crouching position for the fourth player to leap over. When all the players are stooping, the last in the line begins leaping over all the others in turn. It can go on forever!

  • Attend a program this week at any Handley Regional Library branch or watch one online. Check the calendar for the perfect program for you! You can also see virtual programs on the Youth Services YouTube playlist at https://tinyurl.com/HRLSYouth.

Looking for more songs to sing? Try one of these!

Mary Had a Little Frog
(To the tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)
Mary had a little frog, little frog, little frog
Mary had a little frog, it's skin was green as grass.
And everywhere that Mary went, Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went, the frog would jump and splash.

I Have a Little Frog
I have a little frog, his name is Tiny Tim,
I put him in the bathtub, to see if he would swim,
He drank up all the water, and gobbled up the soap!
and when he tried to talk He had a bubble in his throat!

Little Froggy
(Tune: I'm a Little Teapot)
See the little froggy swimming in the pool.
The water's great, it's nice and cool.
When he gets all cleaned up, out he'll hop.
Squeaky cleam from bottom to top.
See the little froggy, on the lily pad.
Trying to catch flies, she's getting sad.
When she catches one, she'll gobble it up
Back in the water she'll go , Kerplop!

Five Little Speckled Frogs
Five little speckled frogs sitting on a speckled log
[5 fingers on bent arm]
eating the MOST delicious bugs, yum! yum! [pick bugs out of air, rub tummy]
One jumped into the pool,
[finger hops in pool]
where it was nice and cool,
Then there were four speckled frogs!
[Continue with four frogs, then three, etc]
Then there were NO more speckled frogs!

Read those books and earn those badges all week long and I’ll see you next week for a new theme.
