Teen Book Spotlight--Favorite Authors Pt. 2!!!

Posted on:

Our teen book spotlight this week is on books that are some of my all time favorite authors!!! These are the authors that as soon as they have a new book out, it is an immediate must read and I already know that I am going to be reading till 3:00 in the morning (we have all been there before), may leave me speechless and filled with emotions (including some crying on the couch), wanting to talk about it with someone instantly, and then telling everyone else they have to read it!  There is some nonfiction and a mix of historical, mystery. Science fiction and realistic; this was such a hard list to make.  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #elyse’sfavorites as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new teen book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

The Family Romanov by Candace Fleming--Examines the rise and fall of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his family, contrasting their lives to those of their poor subjects. Discusses each family member, the events prior to and after their fall from grace, and the family's murder. Includes photographs and first-person accounts, and information on the family's remains.

Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson--Mary Addison has spent the last six years of her life locked up in juvenile detention, convicted of killing a white baby who was left in the care of Mary's mother. Now 15, the African American teen finds herself pregnant and at risk of having her own child taken away. Desperate to keep her baby, Mary makes a startling confession—she did not kill the baby in her mother's care. But with a conviction hanging over her head, it might be hard to convince anyone she's telling the truth.

The Borden Murders by Sarah Miller--Investigates the 1892 murders of wealthy Andrew Borden and his wife Abby, and the role their daughter, Lizzie, played in the deaths. Draws on period photographs, newspaper clippings, court transcripts, and an image from the crime scene to separate fact from fiction.

Warcross by Marie Lu--Warcross--an online video game phenomenon--is a way of life for millions of players around the globe. For impoverished teenage hacker Emika Chen, working as a bounty hunter to track down players who place illegal bets on the game, it's her only means of survival. However, when she tries to hack the opening game of the International Warcross Championships just to make some quick cash, she accidentally glitches herself into the game. Becoming an overnight sensation, Emika is sure she will be arrested, but then she gets a call from the game's creator who offers her a job as an undercover security agent. Whisked off to Tokyo, Emika quickly uncovers a sinister plot that could bring down the whole Warcross empire.

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth--On a planet ruled by violence and vengeance, in a galaxy where fate favors everyone with a “currentgift,” Cyra is the sister of a brutal tyrant, a brother who uses her gift of pain and power to rule the Shotet people. Meanwhile, Akos is the son of a farmer, gifted with an endlessly generous spirit and limitless loyalty. When Akos is thrust into Cyra's violent world, he and Cyra will either help each other survive—or destroy each other.

A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly--In 1906, sixteen-year-old Mattie, determined to attend college and be a writer against the wishes of her father and fiance, takes a job at a summer inn where she discovers the truth about the death of a guest. Based on a true story.
