Our teen book spotlight this week is taking a look at Mysteries!!! There are so many different types of mystery books available that there is literally something for everyone’s tastes! Some are straight mystery/detective stories while others are more suspenseful and thrilling; mysteries are usually cross genre as well meaning that not only is there a mystery element, but there may also be some fantasy, science fiction, or historical elements as well. We have a great selection this week from realistic to fantasy, murder mysteries and crime solving so you will either find something in your reading comfort zone or maybe you will feel like branching out this week. That’s Not My Name by Megan Lally--When a girl wakes up on the side of an Oregon road with no memories of who she is, she's taken to a local police station where a man named Wayne shows up, claiming she's his daughter Mary. Meanwhile, Drew Carter-Diaz is desperately searching for his missing girlfriend, seventeen-year-old Lola Scott, who disappeared after they had a fight. As Mary's memories return, she begins to distrust Wayne's story, while Drew and a close-knit group of friends search for Lola's whereabouts.
Promise Boys by Nick Brooks--Black friends J.B., Ramón, and Trey attend Washington D.C.'s Urban Promise Prep school, led by Principal Moore. The school follows his strict program of discipline, which he says will keep the boys out of trouble and college bound. During a mandatory detention, in which the boys are serving time for infractions, Principal Moore is murdered and the three boys are primary suspects because they were in the building at the same time. In addition, incriminating evidence places them at the scene of the crime. The boys claim innocence, and band together to investigate the case and clear their names.
Five Survive by Holly Jackson--Eighteen-year-old Red, her brother, and six friends take an old RV on a spring break trip from Philadelphia to the southern coast. On the way, their camper succumbs to a flat tire and they realize that their tire was shot. Trapped in a remote location in South Carolina without cell service, the six young adults try to stay alive through the night, wondering who wants to kill them and why, and if someone in their group is hiding a secret.
All These Bodies by Kendare Blake--In 1958, a series of brutal murders involving sixteen bodies drained of all blood occur throughout the Midwest and mystify authorities. But when the Carlson family is murdered in their Minnesota farmhouse, the police find a lead in the form of fifteen-year-old Marie Catherine Hale who is found at the scene covered in blood. Michael Jensen, son of the local sheriff, dreams of becoming a journalist and sees the story as his big break. Marie decides Michael is the only one she will tell her story to, and he jumps at the chance. She doesn't trust Jake as soon as she meets him and feels his eyes on her constantly. She also discovers other men leering at her in town and escapes to the beach with Jake's dog Max. There she meets a boy named Nicco for whom she develops a friendship and an attraction. But Jake takes it upon himself to be her protector and circumstances unravel into dangerous territory.
