Teen Book Spotlight--Spooky and Scary Reads!!!

Posted on:

Our teen book spotlight this week is on books that are filled with spooks and scares!! Just in time to get you ready for Halloween, these books are filled with zombies, ghosts, spirits, unexplained happenings, and other spooky creatures that may have you reading with the lights turned on (I dare you to read with the lights turned off and just a flashlight).  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #yascary as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new teen book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White--Benjamin Woodside, a transgender boy, has escaped the Angels, the religious cult in which he was raised, but not before they infected him with a deadly virus that's changing him on the inside. Years before, the Angels unleashed a deadly virus that killed most of the world's population and changed others into monsters. Benji was to be their ultimate creation, a monster who would control the Flood--the name for the monstrous creatures they created. While on the run, Benji encounters ALC, a rebel group of LGBTQ resistance fighters who are willing to accept him as long as he uses his monstrous powers to fight against the Angels. Initially attracted to their leader Nick, Benji slowly learns the truth behind Nick's own agenda and must come to terms with how to use the monster he's becoming.

The Getaway by Lamar Giles--Jay discovers that the mountain resort where he lives and works with his friends and family is also a doomsday oasis for the rich and powerful who expect top-notch customer service even as the world outside the resort's walls disintegrates.

All These Bodies by Kendare Blake--In 1958, a series of brutal murders involving sixteen bodies drained of all blood occur throughout the Midwest and mystify authorities. But when the Carlson family is murdered in their Minnesota farmhouse, the police find a lead in the form of fifteen-year-old Marie Catherine Hale who is found at the scene covered in blood. Michael Jensen, son of the local sheriff, dreams of becoming a journalist and sees the story as his big break. Marie decides Michael is the only one she will tell her story to, and he jumps at the chance. But as Marie reveals her tale, Michael begins to wonder if he can trust anything she says, and sets out to discover the truth.

Hold Back the Tide by Melinda Salisbury--When Alva was nine, her father killed her mother, but lack of evidence prevented him from being convicted. Alva has kept a low profile around her father until she can run away, helping him with his duties monitoring the water levels of Loch Lake. When water levels drop too low, deadly creatures emerge from the caves, and her father does nothing to stop them, leaving Alva to warn the villagers and find a way to destroy them.

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson--On the outside everything looks promising: former California teenager Marigold is clean for the first time in months, she's getting a fresh start with her new blended family in a Midwest Michigan community, and their rent-free home has been newly renovated. Dig beneath the surface, however, and all isn't so well: Marigold still thinks she needs marijuana to cope with her anxiety and a bedbug phobia, the new home they're living in appears haunted, and her annoying ten-year-old step-sister Piper has a new imaginary friend who wants Marigold gone from the home. Marigold soon learns of the home's sordid past, the decimation of the black neighborhood it's located in, and the true intentions of the horror housed in the home.

Alone by Cyn Balog--Seda, sixteen, feels her invisible childhood nemesis, Sawyer, growing stronger just as a group of stranded teens takes shelter from a blizzard in the dilapidated mansion Seda's mother inherited.
