A Summer of Teen Music at Bowman Library!

The Handley Regional Library System is planning a fantastic summer reading program entitled, “It’s Showtime At Your Library” and the teens are getting into the action!

Because of the performance-oriented theme, members of our Teen Advisory Board will be hosting a Teen Music Jam for any interested young musicians in the area.

Teen JammingDuring our Teen Music Jam, teens ages 12 and up can jam with other teens, playing modern music favorites in a band setting. The jams will be offered every Wednesday evening in July and participating students will be invited to play a short set during our August 10th Summer Reading Finale. Selected music will be given prior to the jam with chords to prepare in advance, and the jams will be hosted by members of our Teen Advisory Board.

We'd love more teens, instruments, and more great music ideas to get this jam moving! We are currently seeking teen musicians to head up a “core” music group to lead the July music jams. Those that are willing to meet for a couple of preliminary rehearsals to go over a basic set list would be ideal. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 29th, so contact Cheryl Costello at ccostello@handleyregional.org if you would like to join our teens to go over music selections and to jam a bit.

Music will include a variety of genres, including modern selections from bands, such as Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy, and Panic at the Disco.  Participants should be able to play basic chords, including A, G, D, C, Em, and Am on their instrument. Drums and keyboards are welcome too!

Check out a 30 second video of a couple of our teens working out some chords and vocals for one of the song options.

Musicians must have some experience or prior training in one of the following instruments: Guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, or other electric or rock/pop music appropriate instrument. Sound system will be supplied and some instruments may be available to borrow. Contact Cheryl Costello at 540-869-9000 x220 or ccostello@handleyregional.org for questions or accommodation needs or to sign up to help lead the jams. Participation in the jams does require registration, which will open on June 5th

Come celebrate a summer of music with the Bowman Teen Music Jam!
