Join us for the kickoff event for the second annual Hungry for History.
Local author, Mike Robinson, will give a presentation about local tavern history in Winchester. Taverns were a central part of colonial life. They were not only a place to consume alcohol. They were places where travelers could find lodging, where guests could get a good meal, and where citizens could engage in political discussions and hold meetings for organizations. Taverns were for the well-off and the average person alike. And colonial Winchester was filled with them, including “The Golden Buck,” “The Ship,” and “The Red Lion.”
In addition to Mr. Robinson's presentation, the event will provide a preview of all the local Hungry for History programs that will be starting one week after the event. Take time to visit with representatives from numerous museums and historic sites to see what each site will be doing to celebrate Hungry for History this year.
Mike Robinson is a Winchester resident who attended Ferrum College, George Mason University, and Shepherd University, and is the author of the Winchester Tales book series. The mission in writing each of the books was to try and make the stories relatable. By making them more personal to the reader, Mike hopes that the tales will mean so much more and will be passed on to future generations.
