COMMUNITY QUILTING BEE:
Quilt Honoring the People Enslaved at Belle Grove
Two sessions: 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Come learn about memorial quilts that will honor the 270 individuals enslaved at Belle Grove from the 1780s to the 1860s.
Community members stitched the name and birthdate of each person on fabric. Textile artist Carole Gary Staples of Ohio has arranged these blocks into family trees, bordered with vibrant African batik fabrics. Local quilter Pam Pampe has prepared the quilt for hand quilting, and now we invite everyone to join in the final steps of this tribute.
All materials and instructions will be provided and no prior quilting experience is necessary.
For more information and to RSVP visit https://bellegrove.org/calendar/quilt
Please confirm your attendance by April 21.
More future events will be organized for the community to see the quilt and take a stitch.
