This is the premiere of a multi-part series of outside themed programs. Programs on covering topics such as AT thru-hikers, Shenandoah Riverkeeper, Global Hiking, Seneca Rock Climbing School and biking are in the planning stages. This series will be hosted by Susan Tschirhart.

Susan is a life-long hiker, camper and self-described “nature-nerd”. She currently serves as co-chair of the Warren County/ Front Royal Appalachian Trail Community Committee.  For the last 18 years, she has served as a Boy Scout leader, most recently as an advisor to Venturing Crew 247. This co-ed program delivers leadership and project management skills acquisition via fun high adventure outdoor activities. She is also the founder and guide for The Trail Tribe, a local hiking and backpacking group for women. She supports her nature “habit” by working as a paralegal for a New Jersey legal services company. Her favorite pastime is spending time with her three young adult sons. They played a role in how she earned her trail name “Goldilocks” and the “Three Bears”.

The first guests will be Rose “Comics” Turner and Chris Johnson - both thru hikers.

Rose “Comics” Turner is an artist adventurer based in the Shenandoah Valley. Her art primarily focuses on comics and watercolors, and her favorite form of adventure is backpacking. Recently she completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, and has been working on making a comic for each day she was on the trail. She also hosts a podcast, Journeys Through Art, in which she interviews people around the world who dwell in the intersection of art and adventure. She doesn’t believe in wearing shoes she can’t hike in, and she seldom leaves her home without her art supplies.

Chris Johnson and his dog began backpacking in 2015.  He and Winnie, his hiking buddy and rescue dog, successfully hiked the AT in 2019. Both Chris and Winnie dealt with major health issues to complete their hikes. He has been a resident of Winchester for 10 years

Mountain Trails,in downtown Winchester, is a sponsor of this series.
