The Friends of Handley Regional Library System (HRLS) are excited to announce the Fall Used Book Sale, with an exclusive Friends Member Night on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bowman Library Meeting Room. This special preview night allows current Friends members to shop the extensive collection of gently used books, DVDs, CDs, and more before the sale opens to the public. Not a member yet? You can easily join at the event or online.
Members will receive a postcard invitation and can pick up their admission number starting at 4:00 PM in the Bowman Library lobby. Doors open at 5:00 PM, with the sale running until 8:00 PM. Prices range from just $1-$3, with some rare and special items priced at $5 or more. Categories will be organized for easier browsing, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own bags or boxes to carry their treasures. Payment options include cash, credit card, and check.
In addition to Friends Member Night, members are invited to a special Member Morning on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM. Shop the sale before it opens to the public while enjoying complimentary coffee, donuts, and a surprise treat. This is a unique opportunity for Friends members to browse in a more relaxed atmosphere and get first dibs on new items added to the sale.
The sale opens to the public on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. New stock will be added daily throughout the week, so shoppers are encouraged to stop by more than once—you never know what you'll find! Categories include children's books, fiction, non-fiction, DVDs, CDs, and more.
The sale continues from October 7-10 with hours from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and concludes on Friday, October 11 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Entrance to the sale is through the back exterior emergency exit door of the Bowman Meeting Room, where you’ll see the “Used Book Sale Today” sign and red feather flag.
Special offers include a 50% discount for teachers on regular-priced items throughout the sale. Please present your teacher's ID to receive this discount. No book donations will be accepted at the sale.
“We are incredibly grateful for the community's continued support and donations, which make the book sale possible,” said Gina Byrd, Director of the Friends of HRLS. “A lot of work goes into sorting and organizing the thousands of items we receive, but it's all worth it because every sale helps raise valuable funds for our libraries. It’s a win-win for book lovers and the library system.”
Funds raised from the book sale directly support library programs, materials, and services across all three branches of the Handley Regional Library System.
