SCOPE AND CONTENT: The John W. Affleck Collection contains papers of the Huber family of Holland and Pennsylvania from a period between 1733 and 1843. The original papers are written in Dutch and include an English translation.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: John W. Affleck was born in Winchester, Virginia on January 1, 1850 to Alexander G. Affleck and Ann E. Hoover. The family’s home, “Bid-a-Wee,” was on Peyton Street. He ran an agricultural implement business with his brother Scott A. Affleck. On December 26, 1883, he married Rosa Kerfoot. The couple had five children. Affleck died on December 27, 1930.
