Scope and Content: This collection contains much information about the Civil War in the form of newspapers, pamphlets, United Daughters of the Confederacy information, and letters. This material refers to both local and statewide people and events.

Biographical/Historical: Marie C. Bowman was born on May 5, 1909 in Lebanon Church, VA, daughter of Ernest D. and Laura Snapp Funkhouser. She was president of the Winchester Chapter of the United Daughters of Confederacy, and belonged to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Salvation Army, Daughters of the American Revolution, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winchester, VA. She married Harry P. Bowman. Mrs. Bowman died in December 1988 and was buried in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, VA.
