SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection consists of a variety of materials on Frederick County schools, Gainesboro Post Office and Gainsboro Fire Hall, three five dollar bills from the Bank of the Valley of Virginia, 1847, and miscellaneous genealogical materials concerning the Bayliss and Fries families, as well as over 200 photographs of buildings, people, and events in Winchester, VA. The collection also includes a bell used at Jackson’s Headquarters (Museum) which is on display in Archives Reading Room

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: E. E. Bayliss Jr. was born June 29, 1924 in Gainesboro, VA. A veteran of World War II, Bayliss was a realtor in Frederick County, VA for most of his adult life and an avid collector of items of local history. He died on June 1, 2009 and is buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, VA.

His father, E. E. Bayliss Sr. was a World War I veteran and ran a general store in Gainesboro, VA. He died on January 12, 1967, and is also buried in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
