SCOPE AND CONTENT: The Thomas C. Barton Papers contains materials related to World War I. It includes souvenir postcards, cartoons, and photos, detailed military maps used for operational maneuvers in France, and the roster of Co. M, 317th Infantry (1919), which was commanded by Capt. Thomas C. Barton, Jr.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Thomas C. Barton, Jr. is a New Jersey resident and the compiler of this collection. Barton is a noted Winchester/Frederick County name. Brothers Thomas and Lewis Barton and their cousin Robert Barton all served in World War I.
