BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: W.E. Cooper & Son Wholesale was a grocery wholesale distribution business serving the area surrounding Winchester, VA.  The business began as Cooper and Barr in 1873, run by Oscar Barr and T.J. Cooper, on the corner of Main and Piccadilly Streets (2 E Piccadilly) in Winchester, VA.  In 1880, with the addition of J. Edward Cooper to the business, it became Barr, Cooper and Company.  In 1882, Oscar Barr left the firm and in 1884, Capt. Lewis F. Cooper joined, and the name became Cooper Brothers grocery.  The business remained within the family going forward.  In 1917, the name changed again to T.J. Cooper and Sons and the location moved to 125 E Piccadilly.  It was renamed a final time between the years 1929 and 1936, this time to W.E. Cooper & Son as it passed from the hands of one generation to another.  The business appears to have closed by 1943.
