SCOPE AND CONTENT: The Cooper/Davis Ledger collection consists of an account book used by at least two different people: John W. Cooper of Pughtown (now Gainesboro area of Frederick County), VA and David Davis for the estate account of Gabriel H. Davis. Several pages are missing, as the first page number is 44. The dates of use by John W. Cooper are from 1808 to 1882 and David Davis from 1838 to 1851. An index to the ledger compiled by Linda Whitmer is included.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Little is known about the people the people who used this account book. The only mention of a Gabriel Davis in Frederick County during this time period lists him as a wedding witness in 1798.
