SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection contains an account book belonging to John Conrad, the owner of a general merchandise store. The transactions cover a period from 1787 to 1794.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: John Conrad, the second son of Frederick Conrad and Maria Clara Ley Conrad, was a Winchester merchant. He married Elizabeth “Betsy” Rutherford, the daughter of Robert Rutherford of Jefferson County, VA. The couple was married in Winchester on June 1, 1786. Conrad’s birthday, date of death and burial are unknown.
