BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Jack Fretwell (1915-2006) was an entertainer, businessman, and community philanthropist in Winchester, VA. After a bout with alcoholism early in life, Fretwell responded by founding Starting Point Detox, Lord Fairfax Halfway House, and the Edgehill Recovery Retreat, which was renamed the Fretwell Center at Edgehill in 1999. He is most remembered for his contribution to musical entertainment as a tutor to Patsy Cline in her formative years. Fretwell, who performed with Cline several times on the Jimmy Dean Show, never lost his love of performing. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Winchester, Fretwell called members of his church and sang Happy Birthday to them. His last such call was on February 14, 2006 just one week before his death at 94.
