SCOPE AND CONTENT: The Hampshire Furnace Records contains a daybook of customer accounts for the Hampshire Furnace on Middle Ridge in Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia) from 1812 to 1820. The records are hand written in ink and are somewhat faded and difficult to decipher.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Hampshire Furnace was built sometime in the late 1700s near Middle Ridge by Edward McCarty. It was located by 12 miles south of Romney, Virginia (now West Virginia).

SEPARATED MATERIALS: The Clerk’s Office in Romney, West Virginia holds ledgers of the Hampshire Furnace from other years.
