Scope and Content: The National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) Collection contains back issues of their newsletter “High Iron” dating from 1984 to 1996. The newsletter updates the group’s activities and members. Also included is a brief sketch of the NRHS. (1 box) Last updated 12/15.

Biographical/Historical: The National Railway Historical Society was formed by a group of railroad enthusiasts on August 18, 1935. This group is made up of the Lancaster, PA Railway and Locomotive Historical Society and the Interstate Trolley Club of New Jersey who joined together on October 13, 1935. Its main purpose is to research, record, and publish rail histories, preserve and restore equipment, and operate field trips over railroad and trolley lines. Model railroading is also a part of the organization’s outreach. There are over 21,000 members. On April 1967, Winchester, VA was granted a charter and began holding meetings in Boyce Station, Boyce, VA.
