SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection is comprised of booklets containing articles about historic roads in Virginia. Collection consists of Highway improvements plans maps (1930s-1970s) done by civil engineers for VDOT. The maps follow highway corridors and have numbered agencies.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: In 1992, the Virginia (VA) Highways and Transportation Research Council was sponsored jointly by the VA Department of Highways and Transportation and the University of VA. This council studied the history of road and bridge building technology in VA. The result of this project is a series of booklets covering historic roads throughout Virginia.
