Scope and Content: The Virginia Historic Landmark Commission Records is a collection of surveys performed in Frederick County, VA. These surveys evaluated the architectural and historic significance of each chosen landmark.

Biographical/Historical: The Virginia Historic Landmark survey was first created in the early 1930s by the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society; but it was not until 1988 that Maral Kalbian undertook the actual survey of 1,900 sites in Frederick Co., VA. The project took 5 years and cost over $100,000 to complete. This was the first comprehensive historic landmark survey (of structures 50 years old and older) ever performed in Frederick Co., VA.
