Wildlife Ambassadors to Showcase Live Animals at Handley Library

Our special presenters continue with Wildlife Ambassadors!  The show is on July 3rd at 10:30AM and is free and open to the public. The ambassadors help audiences get up close and personal with amazing animals from around the world and learn about their habitats. The animals in the program are non-releasable wildlife, unwanted pets, and captive bred educational animals.

Book Sale

Friends Summer Used Book Sale Coming to Bowman Library

Handley Regional Library System, in partnership with the Friends of the Handley Regional Library, announce the Summer Used Book Sale at Bowman Library.  The sale runs June 27-29 and features thousands of gently books, DVDs, sheet music, and more. Prices are between $2.00 and 50 cents. Payment is accepted in cash, check or credit card.  Inventory is restocked daily so you can shop all 3 days.   Donations cannot be accepted the sale.  The hours are the same as Bowman Library; June 27 10AM-8PM and June 28 and 29 10AM-5PM.

1455 A Place for Writers, Formerly VCLA, Continues Author Series with Cliff Garstang

1455 A Place for Writers (new name for VCLA) Author Series at Handley Regional Library continues with Cliff Garstang, who will read from his latest book The Shaman of Turtle Valley.  The program will take place on June 22 at 3PM and is free and open to the public. Founding 1455 Director Sean Murphy will discuss the process of writing this book, the contemporary literary scene, followed by an open Q&A.

Book Drop-Off at Bowman Library

It's time to de-clutter and support your library!

The next book-drop off date as June 22 at 9AM-12PM.  The community can donate gently used books, DVDs, CDs, and sheet music.  All items donated will be part of the Summer Used Book Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library.  Volunteers will be onsite to assist unloading.

40th Anniversary Celebration of the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives Announced

Handley Regional Library System announces the 40th Anniversary of the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives! There will be a celebration on June 29th at 2PM where patrons can enjoy an open house and meet with current and former staff, volunteers and researchers. Special exhibits of collections and photographs of key events will also be on showcase.  The event is co-sponsored by the Winchester Frederick County Historical Society and is free and open to the public.

Daniel Morgan: A Revolutionary Life - A Book Talk with Author Albert Louis Zambone at Handley Library

We are excited to announces a book talk on Daniel Morgan: A Revolutionary Life on June 15th at Handley Library in the Robinson Auditorium at 2PM. The talk will be led by author Albert Louis Zambone and focuses on Daniel Morgan, a man of humble origins who became one of the great military leaders of the American Revolution. Books will be available for purchase provided by The Winchester Book Gallery and the event is sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library. The program is free and open to the public.

Garden Programs Continue to Grow at Bowman and Handley Libraries

We are excited to announce the next gardening program. Garden Problems: How to Stop and Prevent Some Common Issues is on June 5th at 6PM at Bowman Library. The workshop will focus on common gardening problems, pests, fungus, water issues, and more. Presented by Tricia Boyd from the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardner Association, the program is free and open to adults. The gardening program is part of a series offered at Bowman Library and Handley Library.

Handley Regional Library System announces former freestyle Frisbee champion, Gary Auerbach, is coming for a special performance at Handley Library on June 10th at 2PM. The performance is ideal for kids and teens, and is free and open the public. The Frisbee Guy will amaze the audience with his tricks, stories, and other interactive surprises. The performance is part of the library system’s summer reading for kids, teens, and families, Valley Reads:  It’s Showtime at Your Library.

We are sooo excited to announce that Parent’s Choice Award Winner and Grammy Nominated Kid Pan Alley will be offering a free songwriting workshop along with several performances for kids as part of the library system’s Valley Reads Summer Reading Program. Led by founder Paul Reisler, Kid Pan Alley will offer a song-writing workshop on June 24th at 6PM with a performance from workshop participants on June 25th at 11AM - both at Bowman Library in Stephens City.

Apple Valley Ringers will be performing a special Sunday concert on June 2nd at 3PM at Bowman Library, part of the Handley Regional Library System. The performance titled Handbell Potpourri - Classic to Contemporary, will featured their well-known beautiful and sacred music, plus unique titles The Addams Family, Bohemian Rhapsody The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, and other surprises. The concert is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library.

Parents’ Choice Award Winner to Perform at Annual Celebration in the Garden at Handley Library

The family-friendly Celebration in the Garden will be on March 25th at 2PM in the outdoor Mike Foreman Reading Garden at Handley Library. The anticipated event features LIVE music from Parents’ Choice Award Winner, Mr. Jon and Friends, face painting, balloon twisting, interactive yard games, popsicles, and more! Kids and their families can also sign up for the Summer Reading Program where they can win prizes based on hours and books read or sign up for a library card for the first time.
