Ms. Donna's Favorite Farm Books

Favorite Farm Stories Book GraphicThe count down to summer reading has begun! Beginning this Saturday during our online Rally for Reading, you can sign up on Beanstack to join our Summer Reading Challenge! We'll have some fantastic themes each week, all attached to some opportunities to win prize tickets.

Before that begins, we have one final favorite book pick list from Ms. Donna to share with you this week: Favorite Farm Stories!

We'll begin with a reminder to join us on Wednesday, May 27th at 11:00 AM for our Storytime and Puppets on Facebook LIVE!  She will share her favorites, including Sitting on the Farm by Bob King, and more!

Our tour of favorite digital options begins on Hoopla, where you can find We're Going To The Farm / Nos Vamos A La Granja by Nancy Streza, Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle, How Big is a Pig? by Stella Blackstone, The Farmer in the Dell, by Kim Mitzo Thompson, Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond, and a musical collection, B-I-N-G-O

Head over to Libby by OverDrive and you'll find some charming books, such as The Little Red Hen by J.P. Miller, Punk Farm by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Farmyard Beat by Lindsey Craig, and Otis and the Kittens by Loren Long.

Log in to Tumblebooks for a read-along video of Old MacDonald Had Her Farm by JonArno Lawsom, and Oh, Crumps/ ¡Aycaramba! by Lee Bock.

And every good storytime needs some singing! After you read and sing along with Old MacDonald and Farmer in the Dell, here are a few more to enjoy.

The Cows on the Farm
(Tune: "The Wheels on the Bus")
The cows on the farm go “Moo, moo, moo,
Moo, moo, moo,
Moo, moo, moo.”
The cows on the farm go “Moo, moo moo,”
All around the farm.
Continue with sheep, ducks, chickens, horses, etc.

This Little Cow
(Point to each finger in turn.)
This little cow eats grass,
This little cow eats hay,
This little cow looks over the hedge,
This little cow runs away.
And this BIG cow does nothing at all
But lie in the fields all day!
(Lay thumb on palm.)
We'll chase her and chase her and chase her!
(Draw circles around that lazy thumb.)

Fiddle-I-Fee
I had a cat, my cat pleased me
Fed my cat under yonder tree
My cat says, “Fiddle-i-fee”
I had a hen, my hen pleased me
Fed my hen under yonder tree

My hen says, “chimmy-chuck, chimmy-chuck”

My cat says, “Fiddle-i-fee”
I had a duck, my duck pleased me
Fed my duck under yonder tree
My duck says, “quack, quack”
My hen says, “shimmy-shack, shimmy-shack”
My cat says, “Fiddle-i-fee”
Continue verses, adding other farm animals:
My cow says, “moo, moo”
My sheep says, “baa, baa”
My dog says, “bow, wow”
My goose says, “hissy, hissy”
My pig says, “griffy, griffy”
