Program and Reception Honoring the Legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King

We have a special program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King at Handley Library through readings, stories, quotes, and songs on January 13th at 6:30PM at Handley Library. Community members come together to honor these two drum majors of the Civil Rights Movement. Robin Packard, Minister Barbara Davis, Gwen Walker, and Vice Mayor John Hill honor these two. The program will showcase the lives that helped to shape and change the lives of so many people, not only in the United States, but around the world. Some of Dr. King’s favorite songs, Balm of Gilead and Precious Lord Take My Hand, will be sung by Mrs. Davis. In honor of some of their favorite desserts, pecan pie, sweet potato pie and peach cobbler will be served in the Benham Gallery after the program. The program is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System.

“We are honored to partner with the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System to help bring this program to the public,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System. “This is an important program and I invite everyone to Handley Library to hear about the impact of the Kings. You can continue learning by borrowing books and digital materials on their lives and the Civil Rights Movement.”

“This is going to be a very unique and moving program,” adds Barbara Dickinson, Executive Director of the Friends of Handley Regional Library System. “We will hear letters, stories, and songs as we honor their legacies. The program is free and all ages are welcome.”
