It's Showtime with Dance Storytime!

Dare to Dance StorytimeDo you dare to dance, love to prance?
To jump and twirl or glide?
Can you sway and spin throughout the day,
'til you collapse at eventide?

If so, head over to storytimes this week at the Handley Regional Library System for some toe-tapping stories that will make you want to put on your dancing shoes!

You can find plenty of books about dancing while you're there. Look up the tag: #daretodance for books to take home, then log your books to win prizes during our summer reading program

The books read during storytime count so make sure you log them. If you still need to sign up or are ready to track your books, you can click here and start logging right away.

For a clever way to keep track of your summer reading, download the beanstack tracker app. You can scan books and track reading minutes through the app. Find it for Google Play and iOS devices, then start tracking!  beanstack app

If you get just the right book, you can dance your way to your reading goals. Try Laurie Berkner's Monster Boogie. You can check out the book and the song from her CD, “The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band”, or watch and boogie along on youtube.

Here are a few more songs about dancing to get everyone daring to dance.

Dancing With Bears
One two three, one two three
Dancing with bears
One two three, one two three,
Dancing 'round chairs
One two three, one two three
That's what we'll do
One two three, one two three
Dancing with you!

Dance Your Fingers Up
Dance your fingers up,
Dance your fingers down.
Dance your fingers to the side,
Dance them all around.
Dance them on your shoulders,
Dance them on you head.
Dance them on your tummy,
And put them all to bed.

Five Ballet Dancers
Five ballet dancers
Dancing on their toes.
They twirl, spin and jump,
Then off the stage one goes!
Continue counting down until…
One ballet dancer
Dancing on his/her toes.
S/He twirls, spins, and jumps,
Then off the stage s/he goes!

Looby Loo
Here we go looby, loo,
Here we go looby light,
Here we go looby loo,
All on a Saturday night!
Put your right hand in,
Put your right hand out,
Give your hand a shake, shake, shake,
And turn yourself about.
Continue with left hand, right foot, left foot,
hips, head, whole self…
