Frozen Celebration for Kids at Handley Library

The Frozen Celebration at Handley Library will be on November 23rd at 10:30AM-12:30PM. This interactive kids program will feature face painting, balloons, craft stations, sing-alongs, stores from Frozen, and a special meet and greet with Anna and Elsa characters from the movie Frozen

Singin' in the Rain at Handley Library

Singin’ in the Rain will show at Handley Library on November 16th at 2PM. The showing is free and open to the public. The joyous film, co-directed by Stanley Donen and acrobatic dancer-star-choreographer Gene Kelly, is a charming, up-beat, graceful and thoroughly enjoyable experience with great songs, lots of flashbacks, wonderful dances - including the spectacular Broadway Melody Ballet. Tech Tuesdays are coming to Handley Library!

The next class in the ongoing Tech Tuesdays series is All Things Apple – iPhones and iPads at Handley Library on November 12th at 11AM.  Free and open to the public, the class is led by Apple OS experts from Sprint who will cover the basics, including how to navigate commonly used features on your iPhone and iPad. Afterwards, there will be time for answering your questions. This session includes 40 minutes guided instruction followed by 40 minutes for Q&A.

Now for Adults - Graphic Novels

We are excited to announce the expansion of our book collection for adults with the addition of graphic novels. Similar to comic books, graphic novels use sequential art to tell the story, but with often more complex plots ranging in genre from fiction and non-fiction, to history and fantasy design for adults. The new books are physically available at Bowman Library and Handley Library, but are available for borrowing at all three branches when patrons reserve a specific title to be placed on hold and delivered to the branch of their choice.

Little Noon Music Series Opens with Classical Guitarist John Arnold at Handley Library

We are excited to announce the beginning of the ever popular Little Noon Music, a free music series featuring a variety of genres. John Arnold will open the 2019-2020 series at Handley Library on November 8th at 12:15PM. Day of the Dead Latin Celebration for Kids and Families at Bowman Library

Bowman Library is hosting El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 2nd at 11AM.  Kids and their families can honor their families during this program, or learn it about it for the first time, while they make colorful decorations, break a piñata, enjoy Hispanic foods, dance to Mariachi music, hear stories, and meet the puppets. The library also has a special, colorful exhibit featuring this program. Materials around this topic are also displayed and available for check out.

Bowman Library to Celebrate Diwali Festival of Lights

We will celebrate Diwali and the Festival of Lights during a program for kids and families on October 26th at 11AM at Bowman Library. The whole family can enjoy stories, songs, food, decorations and dance while exploring the Indian holiday. The free program also features the youth puppeteer troupe.  The activities support early literacy skill development. This family event is developed and shared to foster a love of books, libraries and reading.

Learn to Decorate and Organize with Small Space Living Series at Handley Library

We have a new series designed just for adults called Small Space Living.  Free and open to the public, the first workshop is called Small Space Living Series:  Organization, and is led by Chuck Lehrer from ClutterTroopers. This workshop is geared toward young adults who live in a small apartment or share a space with roommates, or for older individuals who are downsizing to a smaller living space than they are accustomed to. This program is at Handley Library on October 24th 6:30PM.

Heimat-Handley Chamber Music Series

The Heimat-Handley Quartet will be performing chamber music at Handley Library on October 19th, February 22nd at the Barns of Rose Hill with Clarke County Library, and April 25th at Bowman Library. Each performance begins at 2PM. The Heimat Quartet was founded during the fall of 2014 in Boston, Massachusetts.  All avid chamber musicians, each player brings a wide array of experience and renewed energy to both the music and the group playing violin and cello.

Magic Lantern Theater and Friends of Handley Regional Library System Present PBS Film Dark Money

PBS film Dark Money will be screened on October 17th at 6:00PM at Handley Library. The movie showing is free and open to the public and a discussion will follow. Dark Money examines one of the greatest present threats to American democracy: the influence of untraceable corporate money on our elections and elected officials. The film takes viewers to the front line in the fight to preserve fair elections nationwide. The screening is sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System.
