At Handley Regional Library System, we want to say “Thank you!” to all of our wonderful patrons of all sizes. You give us reason to give thanks every day. In that spirit of gratitude, we will share some of our favorite books about gratitude and thankfulness this week.
Last weekend the movie, "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" opened in theaters, starring Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers. The release of the movie brings back wonderful memories of watching Mister Rogers as he explored many places in his neighborhood, including trips to the local public library.
We had so much fun with our canine friends a few weeks ago with the theme Puppy Parade, and now we get to show some love on the felines in our lives! Whether you are a cat fan or not, everyone can appreciate a great cat tale! Head over to storytimes this week for some wonderful books about kitty cats, along with songs, rhymes, and more!
It's time to party! Our storytime theme for the week is Fiesta and we'll have music, rhymes, and stories about celebrations, including Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico to honor our loved ones who have gone on before us.
Lights have played an important role in celebrations for many cultures throughout history. This weekend the Bowman Library will be highlighting the Diwali Festival of Lights at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26th.
On Saturday, October 26th at 2:00 PM, the Handley Library will host the Festival of Magic Show featuring many magical appearances and fun for all ages. To prepare for the spellbinding show, here are five facts about magic to enjoy.

If you're a dog lover, or just a lover of books about dogs, head over to Bowman, Handley, or Clarke County library for storytimes this week! We have songs, activities, and some wonderful stories to share about our furry, wet-nosed pals.
It's the return of the fall event for kids, Handley Harvest Hoedown, on Monday October 14th at 4:30PM at Handley Library!
Families can celebrate the season with a puppet show, interactive craft stations, balloon twists from Characters by Chelsea, face painting by Face Paint by Rachel, meet the Chik-fil-a Cow, and the first 100 kids receive a goody bag from Virginia Farm Market with apples and other prizes. The event is free and open to the public.
Fall is here and for some that means pumpkin spice, falling leaves, harvests, and the return of warm sweaters. For others, it means football, basketball, soccer and more!
As we continue our Toy Story celebration of "Library Card Sign-up Month" here at Handley Regional Library System, we will turn towards one of the most beloved toys of the last century, teddy bears!
