It's been a fantastic summer! I hope everyone had as much fun as your library Youth Service staff and volunteers did. At the end of the season the staff (and puppets!) take a brief break from storytimes as we prepare for the next exciting set of storytime themes. Meanwhile, we welcome all of our pint sized participants to keep heading over to the library each week to enjoy some informal play times with blocks and other activities! While you're there, the library staff will be present to help you select some great books to take home.

This is our final storytime of the summer season before we take a short break to prepare some great fall themes and we thought we'd end with a bang! Or perhaps a ROOOOAAARRRRR!

July 20th marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, and we're ready to celebrate! 

Online databases are something that can easily be accessed for free with your Handley Regional Library System library card. World Book Encyclopedia's Early World of Learning is an educational resource perfect for your toddler, preschooler, or early elementary little one. This free digital database is a child’s first encyclopedia, eBook, and introduction to core early concepts.

From crunching and munching caterpillars to fluttering butterlies, we'll enjoy some wonderful stories of beautiful changes this week at Handley Regional Library. 

Don't miss Robin Hood Misdirected on July 10^th at 3PM at Handley Library. The adaption is from Jack Neary and is given a fresh, funny and exciting spin when the Misdirected Theatre Company fails to show up for a sold-out performance! Attendees will experience many laughs, lots of adventure, and swashbuckling action with the Winchester Little Theatre performance.  The program is free and open to the public.

Our video game collections has expanded to Handley Library!

Previously games were only physically available at Bowman Library, but the collection has expanded due to community interest. Popular Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Wii video games are included. You can also select games online to pick up from the library location of you choice in Berryville, Winchester, and Stephens City.

Our special presenters continue with Wildlife Ambassadors!  The show is on July 3^rd at 10:30AM and is free and open to the public. The ambassadors help audiences get up close and personal with amazing animals from around the world and learn about their habitats. The animals in the program are non-releasable wildlife, unwanted pets, and captive bred educational animals.

School may be out for summer, but learning doesn't have to stop!

In fact, it shouldn't.

Children who don't read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning by the time they return to school in the fall, according to the iREAD Reading Program. This loss is referred to as the "summer slide."

Music and storytimes may just be the perfect early literacy match!
